New outdoor gym equipment worth more than £8,000 has been unveiled in Higham Ferrers.
The mayor of Higham Ferrers Richard Gell carried out the official opening of the new gym equipment at Saffron Road Recreation Ground in the town last week.
He was able to test out the various fitness stations with fellow councillors Anna Sauntson, Val Newbery, Owen Mayes, Pam Whiting and Bert Jackson.
The equipment was funded by a grant for £8,017.65 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme.
The Awards for All scheme gives groups a way to get small Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000.
Its aim is to fund projects which address the issues, needs and aspirations of local communities and people.
Successful applications cover a wide range of community projects aimed at developing skills, improving health, revitalising the local environment and enabling people to become more active.
Higham Ferrers Town Council bid for the money to buy some outdoor gym equipment in response to the outcome of the town’s Community Plan, which was produced following town-wide consultation in 2012.
