New McDonald's at Northampton retail park to create 100 jobs

The new McDonald's restaurant is being built at St James Retail Park in Towcester Road on the former site where the Boots drive-thru used to be.

Bosses say the new drive-thru restaurant will create 100 new jobs for the community and will include a play area for children, self-order kiosks, free-to-use tablets and mobile charging points.

McDonald’s franchisee Perry Akhtar started his career with McDonald’s 30 years ago.

With the opening of the Towcester Road restaurant, Perry now owns and operates eight restaurants across Northamptonshire, employing over 700 people.

He said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing a brand-new restaurant to Northampton. It’s fantastic to be able to offer more jobs within the local area with great training opportunities for everyone.

"The new digital kiosks and table service have been designed to make our customers’ experience as positive as possible and we hope to see a fantastic response to these features.

"We are very excited to open our doors to customers and we look forward to seeing customers and staff embracing the new features in this busy part of the town”.

Table service will be available in the new restaurant 'to take the stress out of finding somewhere to sit' when carrying food, potentially with children, bags and buggies.

The new ‘click and collect’ service will also be available through the new app, which enables customers to order when and where they want and at their own pace, without having to queue.

In July last year the former Boots store, which once occupied the building, shut its drive-thru store with car window-level hatches after six years of trade.

Here motorists could hand in their prescriptions before driving to another window to collect their medicines.
