A new Referral Management Centre (RMC) will be launched in Northamptonshire next week to help ensure that children and young people are seen by the right medical professionals as smoothly as possible.

The centre, launched by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) on Monday, June 9, will be based at Isebrook Hospital.

It’s aim is to help improve the progress all urgent and non-urgent referrals into NHFT in a bid to ensure that all children and young people are seen by the right health professionals with the right skills the first time.

The launch comes as part of NHFT’s on-going commitment to the transformation of Children and Young People’s Specialist Health Services and has been designed to provide a single point of access for all referrals into the NHFT service.

NHFT deputy director for Children and Young People’s Health Services, Sharon Toyer said: “This is an exciting development that has been implemented as a result of listening to what is important to families who are accessing our health services.

“This is a first step and the new Referral Management Centre will provide us with a vehicle to ensure that all of NHFT’s Specialist Children’s Services are working together in a more joined up way, which is great news for both our patients and our clinical colleagues.

“Looking ahead, we anticipate that the introduction of the RMC will lead the way to an integrated assessment and care plan for children and young people with multiple or complex needs within NHFT.”

The NHFT Specialist Services that will become accessible through the RMC include:

• Child and Adolescent Mental Health

• Children’s Community Nursing (CATCH, Continuing Health Care, Home Respite, special School Nursing & Long Term conditions)

• Community Paediatrics (North of the County)

• Continence Assessment

• Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD)

• Dietetics

• Looked After Children (Mental Health only – not for Medicals or Health Assessments)

• Occupational Therapy

• Physiotherapy (North of the County)

• Speech and Language
