New lighting has been hung over footpaths along the riverside at Midsummer Meadow, connecting the skatepark, restaurant and café with Becket’s Park.

Northampton Borough Council said it has invested in new lighting to help people explore and enjoy the town’s riverside into the evening.

The ‘festoon-style’ lighting will illuminate the waterside, and is part of the Borough Council’s work to improve the area following improvements to Becket’s Park.

Midsummer Meadow already offers the Radlands Plaza Skatepark, as well as the Outpost Café and Ark Restaurant, and the route will eventually be used by students at the future University of Northampton campus.

Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council said: “The skatepark and café are popular during the day, and the area is served by a Cycle CoNNect hub. Into the evening the floating restaurant is giving people a unique dining experience.

“The new lighting will be another improvement that helps people discover what is on offer already, as well as putting everything in place as the area is set to become more active over the next few years.”
