New 3D images of planned Northampton power station feature '˜education centre'

Rolton Kilbride has unveiled an updated set of images, showing the proposed £120 million gasification plant in situ at the Westbridge depot in St James.

The new designs feature an education centre, which the developers say would be for schools and visitors to learn more about the workings of the facility.

Previous impressions, showing the plant from a lower angle, showed the 45 metre tall structure towering above the town skyline, which campaigners described as “monstrous.”

The new pictures show the plant from an aerial position, complete with a new multi-coloured block design on the outer wall.

Spokesman for the Northampton Community Energy Scheme, the body which would sell on the energy produced to residents and businesses, Ian Crummack, said: “Following some valuable discussions with local residents and councillors, we have responded to the feedback and we have made changes to the building design.

“From the potential designs on display at the recent public event, we were able to speak to over a hundred local residents and gain their insights as well as respond to concerns. “These particular designs were clearly the favourites so we can now show them in more detail.

“They include further modifications to the main building, as well as a dedicated education centre for schools and visitors, which we hope will be an important educational aid.”
