Neighbours not so keen on Northampton social club's extension

The Turkish Social Club, in Henry Street, is extending its single storey ground floor and wants to be able to hold licensable activities in it, and its outdoor smoking area. The club is also converting its disused basement into a pool and an area for indoor sporting events.

The club has fended off concerns from Northampton Borough Council’s environmental health team by agreeing to cease all licensable activities - such as drinking alcohol - in outside areas by 11pm Monday to Saturday, and at 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The club has also agreed that all doors and windows at the rear of the premises will be closed by the same time, due to noise concerns from neighbours.

One resident objecting to the licence application says: “Trying to get to sleep with the noise they are already making is difficult. Our concerns are that this extension is going to cause more disruption.”

Members of the council’s sub-licensing committee will decide whether or not to grant the licence at The Guildhall on Wednesday morning (August 15).
