Music fans flock to Record Store Day event in Northampton

Music fans from across the region queued from the early hours outside of record shops in Northampton on Saturday in a bid to secure some of the limited vinyl released as part of this year's Record Store Day.

Spun Out in Gold Street and Vinyl Underground in Abington Street were both among stores across the UK stocking some of this year’s official releases.

Record collectors started queueing from 2.30am in Gold Street and by the time Spun Out opened its doors at 8.30am, dozens of people were queueing along the road.

Hundreds of acts released limited tracks on Saturday, with prominent releases by the likes of Foals, Noel Gallagher, Frank Turner, David Bowie, Ian Brown and Ocean Colour Scene.

This year’s Record Store Day ambassadors were Metallica, who released a limited edition live CD – a copy of which was raffled off at Spun Out.

Last year, the band released a cassette.

Spiral Archive and the Lamplighter both also held record fairs to mark the annual the event.

At Spun Out, there was music later in the day by Thee Telepaths and DJ sets from Kev Palmer and Swiss Vince.

Record Store Day takes place each year and aims to champion independent record shops.
