Neighbours have spoken of their shock after learning a 57-year-old woman died on their cul-de-sac in Northampton last night.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Linley Green, just off Whernside Way, in Duston.
Police were called to the address shortly after 2am and a property and adjoining alleyway remain taped off this afternoon. Officers have been guarding the entrance to the alleyway throughout the day.
The reaction from people living on Linley Green and Whernside Way was one of shock, with few people having heard any disturbance in the night.
Joy Peters, 57, of Linley Green, said: “I’ve lived here all my life, it’s a nice area with a lot of families round here.
“We all keep an eye out for each other round here, I just hope it’s not someone I know. It’s worrying.”
Nearby resident, Claire Stephenson said: “We have the odd incident round here, but I’ve never had anything like this before.
“I’ve been here for nearly 15 years, it’s terrible.
“I think there was a dog that lives there as well, so I’m hoping its all right.”
Another man, who did not want to be named, said: “You don’t expect this kind of thing on your doorstep.”
Those living in the area said police had been conducting door-to-door enquiries at nearby homes throughout today.
Police squad cars and the ambulance service attended the scene during the early hours.
A neighbour, who also did not wish to be named, said: “We never heard anything until we saw a few police cars out there this morning. We thought then that it must be something really serious.”
A 32-year-old man was arrested last night and is currently in police custody.
