Mum asks vandals for some respect after ornaments taken from son's grave

A Northampton mum is calling for calm after she found precious ornaments, including an angel figurine, taken from her stillborn son's grave and thrown in a bush.

Kallyann Butt, 27, of Bants Lane in Duston lost her first baby, Koehn when she was 25 weeks pregnant back in 2015.

But on Sunday (September 1) she visited his grave, after being told by her parents it was vandalised, to discover it had been trashed.

The care assistant said: “On my son’s grave there was ornaments, an angel and a stone love heart with his name on it.

“Where he is buried is a cut through. It’s a bit of a steep hill so I looked down there to discover loads of items from people graves had been thrown down there like rubbish.

“A lovely lady and her daughter helped me get as much as we could out as possible but there is still loads down there.

“We have placed it all on the hill where it can visibly be seen this is people’s babies mums, dads sister, aunts, uncles, nans, paps.

“Koehn's items are still missing and it’s broke my heart to think someone can do stuff like this!”

The mum-of-one described how blue stones were also thrown from her son’s grave and scattered around the cemetery.

She added: “It’s disgusting to think someone has been on my son's grave and took his stuff off and has walked all over him while scattering his little blue stones everywhere.

Describing the vandals behaviour she said: “ They just need to learn some respect really. How would they like it if we went into their homes and trashed them? I’m sure they would not be happy.”

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We did receive a report of criminal damage at Dallington Cemetery at 7pm on Sunday night where it seems grave ornaments were damaged and also thrown around."

Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 and Northampton Borough Council.

She is urging for anyone with information to contact the police and for other cemetery users to report this incident to the county force.
