Mum allegedly hit by bus in Northampton says '˜it only missed my son by centimetres'

Mum-of-three Danielle Joyce, 25, was waiting at the bus stop at Sixfields roundabout on Good Friday with two of her children at around 5.15pm.

But as she reached into her one-year-old son Theo’s changing bag, the front of a Stagecoach bus allegedly swept onto the curb and clipped her on the arm, spinning her round and knocking her to the floor.

She suffered whiplash and severe bruising as a result, but witnesses have claimed the bus driver did not stop.

Miss Joyce said: “The bang was really loud.

“They stopped a little further down the road for a brief second before driving off.

“My one-year-old son Theo was in the buggy just in front of me - I have no idea how it missed him.

“It must have only missed by a matter of centimetres.”

Miss Joyce, a nursery nurse from Chalcombe Avenue, Kingsthorpe, attended Northampton General Hospital the next day and had reported the matter to the police.

She contacted the Chronicle & Echo because she is hoping witnesses will come forward.

At the time of the incident on Good Friday, the area was full of Cobblers fans leaving Sixfields after the League Two home clash against Newport County.

Hayleigh Costello, 24, claims to have witnessed the bus hitting Miss Joyce .

She said: “The front of the bus just came onto the pavement, not the full wheels, but the front part. Then it hit her on the arm and knocked her over.”

Stagecoach says it will investigate the incident.

A spokesman said: “The safety of our staff, passengers, and other road users is of the utmost importance to Stagecoach. A full and thorough investigation will be carried out following these claims.”
