MP calls for action on estate issues

AN MP has called on Northampton Borough Council to end the misery of homeowners on a housing estate by helping to evict unruly housing association tenants.

Andrea Leadsom, MP for South Northamptonshire, has been taking up concerns about drug dealing and domestic abuse of Upton residents with the Guinness Partnership housing association for two years, but, she said, without significant action.

Guinness has started legal proceedings against one problem family to try to evict them, following a police drugs raid.

But Mrs Leadsom said others at the centre of repeated anti-social behaviour complaints remained, despite being apparently in breach of their tenancy agreements.

In a letter to council leader David Mackintosh asking him for suggestions on a “constructive way forward” she said: “There has been no improvement in the behaviour for many owners and for some that situation is intolerable.”
