Organiser and Mounts Fire & Rescue firefighter Steve Corcoran said: "We've put together something for the general public to enjoy. We don't expect anything back but we will be there with buckets to collect for the Children's Burns Trust and any donations will be appreciated.

"We hope it will be a great night and I hope we will have a big turnout."

Santa Claus himself will be chauffeured onto the square by the Mounts Fire Station crew on the back of one of their vintage fire engines to join in the festivities at 5.30pm, with presents to hand out to children.

Meanwhile, supermarkets Sainburys have supplied 250 mince pies for the occasion while Northampton's Friars Farm pantry shop will be putting on mulled cider.
