Martial arts and belly dancing in Northampton town centre this weekend

Visitors to Northampton town centre can enjoy music and dancing inspired by Egypt and Brazil.

This Saturday, August 13, a range of street entertainments have been organised by the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID).

The sixth ‘Discover Northampton town centre Live’ street entertainment day will run from 11am to 3pm in locations around Gold Street and Gold Street Mews.

Entertainers include Northampton Capoeira, showcasing a Brazilian blend of martial arts, dance, acrobatics and music, and Arjana Dance, who perform a range of belly dance styles including classic Egyptian drum solos and veils.

Swing and jazz singer Rebecca Jayne will be taking audiences through a range of classics, while Laura Hudson will be performing an exciting stilt walkabout to music.

The performances will take place in Gold Street Mews, in Gold Street opposite Jenny’s Restaurant, and outside the All Saints Church.

‘Discover Northampton town centre Live’ will take place on the second Saturday of every month until October, and will in future celebrate local talent.

Jessica D’Aulerio, chair of Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “August’s ‘Discover Northampton town centre Live’ brings back some favourite performers who have delighted audiences in Northampton town centre before, as well as some brand new entertainers.

“Gold Street and Gold Street Mews incorporate a really wide variety of businesses, and this is reflected in the eclectic entertainment we have planned.

“We hope to welcome lots of faces, old and new, to Northampton town centre this weekend.”
