Alex Jelley, economic regeneration manager at Kettering Council, said: “Kettering has a strong and historic market tradition.

“Working together with existing and new traders, we want to make sure that tradition not just survives, but thrives.

“Markets can help bring a town centre to life and give local traders and farmers a valuable local outlet for their produce.

“They can be a great way for entrepreneurs in retail to start their own business, after all, big names like Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Tesco all started out as market stalls.”

Cllr Derek Zanger, Kettering Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “There is no underestimating the important role that the market plays in maintaining vibrancy and bustle in the High Street.

“Kettering Council is keen to support the new traders in both the general and the new Foodie Friday market, and to offer a platform to local traders in the future.”

Traders at Kettering markets must have valid public liability insurance for £5m, not leave any rubbish on site, fully comply with environmental health standards both on the stall in High Street and during preparation on their own premises, and never leave stalls unattended.
