An image of a man officers want to speak to in connection with a purse theft in a Northampton supermarket has been released by Northamptonshire Police.

Sometime between 12.30pm and 1pm on Thursday April 3, an 80-year-old woman was approached by a man in the Kingsthorpe branch of Waitrose.

The man, who spoke with a stutter, began talking to the woman about tinned foods and she reached to the top shelf to pass him a tin.

As this happened, it is believed the man stole the woman’s purse from her handbag.

The man was large with dark hair and was wearing dark clothes. Officers investigating the case believe he may have been putting on the stutter.

Witnesses or anyone who recognises the man in the picture can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
