A woman driving along a Northamptonshire road was flagged down by a man standing in the road.
The woman was driving along Courteenhall Road, between the A508 and Blisworth village, at around 10am on Wednesday when she was flagged down by a man in the road.
The man, who was standing near a green saloon type car, asked for money for fuel. The woman refused the request and reported it to the police.
So far during February, police have received a further ten reports of this kind of incidents at various locations across Northamptonshire.
If someone stops, the person then asks for money for fuel, sometimes offering their jewellery as a deposit, or they might ask for a lift to the nearest petrol station.
People are being urged to report any kind of suspicious activity like this.
Sergeant Lorna Clarke said: “We would urge anyone who witnesses this type of incident to take down as much detail as possible, especially the type of vehicle and the registration number, as well as a description of the person involved.
“Please ring the police immediately so that we can track down these people and prevent any offences being committed. Please call us on 101 unless you feel at all threatened by this behaviour, in which case call 999.
Anyone with information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
