A gang approached a man as he was walking towards Northampton town centre, punched and kicked him to the floor before robbing him of cash and his mobile phone.
The 30-year-old victim was walking from the petrol station on Grafton Street in the direction of the town centre, just after midnight this morning (Friday).
When he reached Regent Square he was set upon by a group of men. One of them, believed to be Eastern European, punched and kicked him to the floor.
During the incident the victim had a bag, a wallet containing cash and a mobile phone stolen.
The Eastern European man was accompanied by a group of black men. They were all aged 16-24 and were dressed casually in tracksuits and jeans.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information regarding it.
