Man dies following crash on the A5 near DIRFT

A man has died after a road collision on the A5 on Sunday.

The 41-year-old man sadly died following the collision close to the BP Truckstop on the A5 at Lilbourne, Northamptonshire.

The accident happened at about 5.30am yesterday (Sunday, July 10) when a blue Ford Galaxy collided with an HGV parked in a lay-by on the southbound side, about 400 metres south of the truck stop.

The driver of the Galaxy, who lived in Coventry but has not yet been formally named, died at the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it sent an ambulance, a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic area support officer to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a car that was severely damaged following the collision with a man inside.

“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the incident.”
