A man has been charged with two sexual assaults on women during overnight public coach journeys, following his arrest in Northamptonshire.

Sadis Fernando, aged 23, from Newcastle-upton-Tyne, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning at Rothersthorpe services on the M1.

Northampton Magistrates’ Court heard that Fernando was accused of groping a female passenger on a bus while she slept.

Fernando was also charged with another sexual assault during a similar coach trip from Edinburgh to London in January.

The court heard that Fernando was accused of sitting next to the victim before digging his elbow into her thigh, moving towards her genitals. Prosecutors said Fernando was accused of later putting his hand up the back of the same passenger’s shirt while she was facing the window.

Fernando, who was remanded in custody, gave no plea and will appear in Northampton Crown Court later in the month.

Witnesses or anyone with further information about either incident is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
