A 43-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a violent attack in Kingsthorpe on Friday.

The man is due to appear in court today.

A police spokesman said: “Following a domestic related incident in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton on Friday 18 January, a 43-year-old man has this morning been charged with attempted murder.

“He will appear at Wellingborough Magistrates’ Court today.

“A 41-year-old woman is in hospital in a stable condition, following the incident.”

Roads were closed in The Green on Friday, as police officers investigated the scene late in the evening.

A statement issued by the force on Saturday afternoon said: “A female received serious injuries, believed to have occurred as a result of an assault.

“At this time there is a man in custody and the police are not looking for anyone else.

“We do not believe there was or remains any risk to the local or broader community.”

It has been claimed the woman was stabbed, but the police have refused to confirm this.
