Man from Brixworth charged with manslaughter of Robert Gardner
Detectives have charged a 43-year-old man with the manslaughter of a homeless man who died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault in Northampton.
Robert Spearman, from Brixworth, was remanded in custody yesterday after charges were brought by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) major crime team.
Police say Robert Gardner was assaulted on Thursday, June 9, in Boughton Green Road, Kingsthorpe and died at Northampton General Hospital on Friday, 24 June.
Spearman had previously been arrested on suspicion of assaulting Mr Gardner and was released on police bail.
He was re-arrested by Northamptonshire Police on Tuesday with the force claiming “medical evidence” linked the alleged assault to Mr Gardner’s death more than two months earlier.
Spearman will appear at Northampton Magistrates Court today to face the charges.
