A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman at an address in Northampton last night.
Officers were called by paramedics in Agnes Road, Semilong at about 7.30pm on Monday March 21, after reports of a woman having been seriously injured.
The woman died a short time later.
Neighbours said she was aged in her forties.
A 41-year-old man from Northampton, who was known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder last night and is currently being held at the Criminal Justice Centre.
A forensic post-mortem examination is set to take place at Leicester Royal Infirmary later today.
A home in Agnes Road has been cordoned off with police tape.
A neighbour who lives in Agnes Road said: “An ambulance car was at the house.
“The police turned up about three hours later and my son saw a man being led away in handcuffs.
“It’s very sad.”
Police have confirmed that Jimmy’s Store, a convenience shop in nearby Barrack Road that was also cordoned off this morning, was part of the murder investigation, although they would not say how.
A spokeswoman said the shop was a ‘property of interest’.
