Eleanor Astle, 72, and Kerrianne Rummery-Blackford, 17, both from Kingsthorpe, were among the lucky town centre shoppers to each win £250 during the first of three Golden Ticket prize draws being run by Northampton town centre Business Improvement District (BID).

Eleanor said: “I decided to surprise my family with the news when we were all sat around the dinner table during our Sunday roast. This means we can spend a little more on the family at Christmas and it will also mean we can treat our granddaughter on her 18th birthday which is Christmas Eve. I’m also looking forward to treating myself to a little something too.”

In line with the Golden Ticket terms and conditions, up to five stores in Northampton town centre can be selected by each winner, and two of those must be independent businesses to ensure all shops, venues and businesses are supported over the festive period.

Winner Kerrianne added: “I am just starting out as a hairdressing apprentice and have really cut back on my spending so I could save for Christmas presents. I haven’t been going out so to win this is amazing – it means I can actually treat myself for a change.”

Shirley Higgs, 65, from Upton, and Louise Thacker, 28 from Kings Heath, were also winners in the draw, and have both been telling friends and family to enter.

Being able to take her 12 year-old niece to the pantomime was the best bit about winning for Louise, who said: “I have been telling all my friends and family to enter because if I can win, anyone can. My niece will love Aladdin at the Royal & Derngate and I can’t wait to treat her.”
