A lorry driver has been fined £75 and his firm billed for the cleaning up of ‘litter’ he dumped in a lay-by near Nether Heyford.
The driver was seen in the lay-by on the A45 shovelling the grain from the back of his vehicle on to the road.
He was spotted by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) employees who pulled into the lay-by on October 26.
The driver left before the crew could speak to him, but they did note his vehicle registration number.
He has since paid a £75 fixed penalty for littering and his firm was also billed £55 for the clear-up.
Councillor Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “What’s particularly galling in this situation is that it appears the driver was clearing out the remnants of a load he’d just delivered.
“He could have easily done that at the delivery site instead of creating an unsightly mess and laying down a feast for vermin like rats.”
