Animals In Need, which is based in Little Irchester, has lots of cats of all shapes, sizes and ages, but it is struggling to find new homes for them.

This has led to the charity making a direct appeal to anyone who is looking to get a cat in the near future.

Annie Marriott from the charity said: “At this time of year, Animals In Need in Little Irchester, like any rescue centre up and down the country, is full to overflowing with felines looking for loving forever homes.

“Sadly re-homing has come to a standstill as a result of the number of cute kittens being advertised free or for sale on public media sites.

“We take in the cats and kittens no-one wants until we are full to capacity.

“Unfortunately because we ask for a donation to go towards the cost of the animals being vaccinated, microchipped and neutered prior to adoption, and trying to find the best homes available, people tend to look elsewhere for a

cheaper or easier option.

“The adult cats in rescue have no chance competing against all the kittens so just remain where they are for months.

“Until they are adopted, we can take no more in, and so it goes on.

“To any families considering taking on feline additions, please do try your local rescue first.

“By adopting you would be doing so much more than you realise, and we would hope that eventually people would take responsibility and get their cats neutered rather than using them as a money-making exercise and simply adding to the problem.”

Anyone who would like more details can send an email to [email protected] for further information on adoption.
