Lines that would connect massive Rail depot outside Northampton 'are full' documents suggest

Blisworth and Milton Malsor residents have discovered that National Rail has turned down an application by Virgin Trains to run four more services on the West Coast Main Line.

It is the teh same line that developers Ashfield Land hope would serve the Rail Central depot, a eight million square foot site featuring huge warehouses.

Mark Redding, of Stop Rail Central, said: “The facts are clear. National Rail has stated time and again that the west coast line is congested and reaching its

maximum capacity and that there is limited scope to accommodate growth at an acceptable level of performance.”

Stop Rail Central further claim that a study carried out before the rail terminal near Daventry (called DIRFT 3) was approved stated there was very limited “theoretical capacity” on the line.

DIRFT 3 will be seeking an additional 16 train ‘paths’ and another project, the West Midlands Interchange, is seeking a further 10 paths.

Mr Redding said: “Given what National Rail are saying, where can Rail Central possibly find the additional 16 train paths that will enable it to fulfil its brief as a strategic rail freight interchange?”

“We’d also like the Government to answer how can an application such as this be allowed to get as far as it has with nothing more than a theoretical notion that there might be “some” train paths available.”
