There are long delays coming into Northampton this morning following a burst water main.
The A500 Spencer Bridge Road is partially blocked near the Gladstone Road junction while emergency repairs are carried out.
A burst water main has resulted in water running across the road and part of it has been blocked off by workers trying to fix it.
Traffic lights are in place.
The road blockage is causing long delays in the area.
An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We’re sorry that some customers in the west of Northampton have had low pressure this morning. This is because of a burst to a water main near Spencer Bridge Street. We already have a team of engineers on site and they are working to repair the pipe and reroute water to homes through our vast network of pipes to bring pressure back up to normal levels as soon as possible.”
The water company said it needed to close one lane in Weedon Road to access a pipe valve and one lane of Spencer Bridge Road (near the junction of Muscott Street) to carry out the repair of the pipe.
The spokesman said the company was sorry for the inconvenience caused.
“We know this is a main route in and out of the town and is likely to cause some traffic disruption, so we’d like to apologise to road users and customers in the area.
“This morning we have sent proactive messages to customers affected by low pressure and also to those in Northampton and Duston to warn them about the potential traffic disruption. We will keep people updated throughout.”
