The road is being closed for safety reasons while work is carried out on the bridge, which transports rail passengers coming into and leaving Kettering’s train station.

A Network Rail spokesman said it will be carrying out a ‘detailed examination’ of the bridge, which takes place once every six years.

The spokesman said: “We do annual, visual inspections, but obviously detailed inspections are more thorough and not as frequent.

“It’s [being closed] so they can get the appropriate equipment to the site and to keep the workforce safe from motorists.”

Drivers using this route during the closure period are advised to use Warren Hill, the A43, Rockingham Road or Northfield Avenue.
