A jigsaw maker is hoping Wicksteed Park will be the venue for him to set a new world record for the biggest hand-cut puzzle.

Dave Evans set a record in 2013 for the biggest hand-cut puzzle at 40,756 pieces to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

But instead of hitting the headlines for his efforts in completing such a feat, a video of it collapsing after he completed cutting it went viral online.

Mr Evans has now set himself the challenge of beating his own record and he is hoping to do this at Wicksteed Park in Kettering next month in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

However, he is appealing for help from people and businesses in the Kettering area.

Mr Evans, who is from Weymouth but hoping to travel to Kettering in June, said: “The jigsaw will be a montage of pictures making a complete picture of approximately 25ft x 8ft and people or companies can contribute by supplying pictures of their choice and the cost will only be £5OO each.

“They will also benefit from a dedicated website and live streaming over a two-month period.

“The last time I did this unfortunately the jigsaw collapsed after I completed cutting it and as a result the video when viral on You Tube.

“It also appeared on Rude Tube, the Russell Howard Show and Have I Got News For You and achieved over 150,000 views on You Tube.

“We had to get it back together because it had to go to Sandringham as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee exhibition.”

Mr Evans is now hoping to create a puzzle of more than 50,000 pieces, which will take him three to four months to complete and could cost up to £15,000 in total.

While he is delighted to have the backing of Wicksteed Park for his world record attempt, he is also looking for sponsorship to help cover the cost of the challenge.

A spokesman for Wicksteed Park said: “We would be delighted to provide a venue for this amazing world record attempt.

“The park is the home of children’s play and a giant jigsaw is something children will love.

“We are supporting Dave’s attempts to bring the record attempt to Kettering and hope he finds the sponsors he needs and is able to raise lots of money for charity.”

After completing the jigsaw and receiving confirmation of the world record in 2013, Mr Evans donated his creation to Help for Heroes, and he is looking to do the same for a different charity this year.

Any individuals or businesses who would like to sponsor Dave can get in touch by sending an email to [email protected].
