It's no stroke of Luck - Northampton couple celebrate 50 years together
AÂ pair of childhood sweethearts from Northampton celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this week.
Jenny & Keith "Chuck" Luck will have been married 50 years on Sunday, April 1.
They were born just one month apart in 1948 and met at Roade Secondary School in 1959, 58 years ago. They became childhood sweethearts within a year and have been together ever since.
Jenny Luck, 69, said: "We just carried on straight out of school. We got engaged when we were 17. It was just what we wanted to do."
They got married in Wootton Church with a small reception at Wootton Memorial Hall on April 1, 1967. They honeymooned in Brighton for four days.
Kerry Cole, 47, Jenny and Chuck's first daughter, said: "They had their first son, Brian, in 1968, followed by me and then Natalie-April. We were all born in January. It's led to a family joke about how they celebrate their wedding anniversary in April."
Jenny said: "We were married and had three children by the time we were both 26. We know it's something most people don't do these days, but it was just what we put our time into."
Keith "Chuck" Luck, 69, said: "The happiest times were raising our children and watching them grow up. It was hard sometimes in the 1970s when the strikes were on but it just gave us more time to be with our children."
Jenny and Keith have lived in Northampton their entire lives. After they were married, they moved to their first house in Quinton, where they raised their children, before moving to Roade in 1982, where they still live.
Jenny said: "We went on our first holiday abroad in 1999, when we went to Cuba that. That was a very special time for our family."
Jenny said: "The secret to being married is to be understanding and compromising. There are times when you just have to sit back and talk through what's happening.
"We never argue. I was always more fiery but he always helped to calm me down. He's just a lovely man."
Chuck said: "She's a wonderful woman, a wonderful wife and a wonderful grandmother. A very caring woman. I look back on it all and I've never regretted any of it."
Jenny and Chuck will celebrate their 50th year together with a trip to New York with their daughter, Kerry.
