Ice-cream fans will be able to try out the flavour which came out on top with a competition to celebrate the opening of a new dessert parlour.

Italgelato recently opened in Corporation Street in Corby town centre, offering up to 28 different flavours of gelato ice-cream and sorbet as well as waffles, crepes and cakes.

But before opening for business, the dessert parlour ran a competition to find a new flavour for them to try.

Entries suitable for a range of palates came in, but the winning ‘Corby Cooler’ idea of Irn-Bru flavour came from Linsey O’Carson.

She was invited to the factory with her two sons to see her ice-cream flavour made and then sample it before it goes on sale in the shop from Friday morning.

A spokesman for Italgelato said: “We had a phenomenal response to the competition.

“Corby as a whole has been incredibly supportive since we opened.”

As well as various sweet treats, the menu also boasts various drinks, including teas, coffees, milkshakes and chilled drinks.

Inspired by the dessert parlours of Italy, business partners Roberto Misciali and Machello Rossi said they wanted to bring something special to Corby.

They have had specialist equipment sent over from Italy for the new dessert parlour and there are pictures of old Italy on the walls.

Gelato is the Italian for ice-cream and new batches will be hand-made at Italgelato every day.

By containing only 20 per cent air, bosses say their gelato is denser and richer.

The waffles and crepes will be made to order, the croissants and muffins are supplied locally and cakes will be made by a family-run company in London.

The shop can seat about 80 people, and will be available for private bookings.

It also has a children’s party room, which can seat 12.

More than 200 applications came in for the 20 jobs created by the new dessert parlour.
