Police have confirmed the name of an elderly man who died while waiting to be seen at NGH's accident and emergency department.

The man is Mohan Acharya, aged 85, who died at about 1am last Thursday, March 8.

County Coroner Anne Pember will open the inquest this Thursday morning, March 15.

It is likely Mrs Pember will give a brief cause of death then adjourn the inquest to a later date so further investigations can be carried out.

A leaked email sent by medical director Dr Matt Metcalfe said Mr Acharya's death happened as a direct result of overwhelmed staff. The hospital has since said the email comments were speculation.
