A team of men and a team of women from Northampton will row non-stop for six days from a Mediterranean island to Spain.
Allan and Liz Mulliner will head the teams over the 300-nautical miles starting on October 7.
Liz will be accompanied by four other women and Allan’s team consists of himself and two other men.
Both teams will set off from Bosa, Sardinia, on October 7, and expect to reach Barcelona within 6 days.
However, due to the current bad weather conditions and rough seas, the couple say it could take longer if conditions don’t improve.
Allan predicts the most challenging aspect of the race will be the sleep deprivation from the strict shift pattern the teams have arranged.
He said: “The crossing itself is continuous with a shift pattern which will see you rowing for two hours and then resting/sleeping/eating/emailing/crying/singing etc for two hours.
“The cycle repeats itself until we reach land - and hopefully the right bit of land as we have to navigate our crossing as well.”
They have raised 52 per cent of their £1,000 target so far, with the money being donated by sponsors as well as friends at Northampton Golf Club paying to take part in a sweepstake.
The couple are raising money for The Migraine Trust, a charity that has helped the Mulliner family. Allan Mulliner said: “As a family, we suffer from migraines, and it’s very debilitating. Migraine Trust’s research can help improve the quality of life of those affected by migraines and help us to cope with the symptoms. So we are just trying to help them out by raising some money for them.”
