Hundreds of Northamptonshire schoolchildren take part in Olympic-themed sports event

A total of 270 children from 16 Northamptonshire primary schools took part in an Olympic-themed event at Spratton Hall Prep School.

The ‘Going for Gold’ event, which took place on Monday, July 11, was organised by Pacesetter Sports delivered for the Diocese of Peterborough Education Trust (PDET).

The day started with a ‘‘wake and shake’ warm up from one of the Pacesetter team which involved all children followed by a school parade.

The pupils competed at 16 activity stations covering many of the sports that will be involved in the Rio Olympics.

At lunchtime, polar explorer Chris Plowman delivered an inspirational talk covering his most recent expedition to the Arctic and children were given the opportunity to inspect the equipment used during his expedition.

The day concluded with a presentation to the top three boys and girls on the day.

Miranda Robinson, Chief Executive of Peterborough Diocese Education, said: “It was a fantastic event with all the children participating in a range of physical activities.

“Enthusiasm, exercise and enjoyment were the order of the day. A big thank you to Liz Youngman, PDET development officer, and Pacesetter Sports for organising it all.”

Simon Clarke, Headmaster of Spratton Hall said: “We were delighted that the Peterborough Diocese Trust held their Sports Day here at Spratton Hall for local primary schools.

“It was an absolutely wonderful day and it is clear to see that the children thoroughly enjoyed all the sport on offer.”
