The large Land Rover hot air balloon could be seen skirting low over the rooftops in Rectory Farm at around 7pm yesterday before landing in the playing fields there shortly after.

Onlookers helped to bring the craft to a stop in the field, before walking it over to nearby Rectory Farm road so it could be packed into a waiting trailer.

Five police cars attended the scene and offered to close the road for the balloon to be packed away.

One onlooker, Christopher Steng, said: “It flew right over Fernie Fields stadium, my boy called me out because it was pretty low.”
