HMD started in 2001 to remember those affected by the crimes against humanity committed during the Holocaust, as well as in subsequent atrocities in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Kosovo, Darfur and others across the world.

The theme for HMD 2013 is Communities Together: Build a Bridge.

The event started with an opening address from Northampton’s mayor, Councillor Roger Conroy, before readings by the Anne Frank/Stephen Lawrence tree led by the university’s multi-faith chaplaincy.

Professor Aristotle’s key-note lecture entitled The Nazis and Genocide was followed by Dr Stern.
