"He probably would have stabbed me" Northampton working girl opens up about the red light district
This is the story of a sex worker in Northampton who has been working the red light district for 10 years. The woman, who does not wish to be named, is now 31, and a former crack and heroin addict. She told the Chronicle & Echo that she once spent between £100-£200 a day on class A drugs in the peak of her addiction. Now she has turned to methadone, a heroin substitute, so she can ween herself off. She has a new boyfriend, but he doesn’t know she works the circuit. The sex worker of Upton Grange says she charges £20 for oral sex, £30 for sexual intercourse and £40 for both, however, she said business has “dried up” in the town, leading girls to sell themselves for as little as £10. “The money is really hard to come by and a lot of girls now are out shoplifting.
"They take meat, cheese, alcohol, loads of stuff. I have never really had the confidence to do it.”She says one hit of heroin costs around £30 but she has charged previously what she is in need of. Northamptonshire Police's Operation Uncanny, manages prostitutes in the town and aims to divert working girls away from residential houses. On asking what kind of disturbing requests have been made of her. She replies: “One guy paid me £50 to sit on a chair naked and smoke a cigarette, it’s a smoking fetish. They want to be dominated but I wouldn’t let them hit me, ever.”
