Successfully completing the challenge for a third time, Phil Sorrel, a 38-year-old web developer, took on the annual 5in5 challenge with his walking group Team Social Hiking.

The 18km trek from Buttermere to near Keswick is part of the 10in10 annual walking challenge which has raised over £60,000 for MS research so far this year.

Phil was diagnosed with relapsing MS in 2010, and has had four relapses, each one leaving a residual symptom such as numbness in his feet.

“Living with MS is unpredictable. It’s a bit like riding a rollercoaster, but blindfolded – you have no idea what’s coming, you cannot get off, and sometimes it is going to be scary and sometimes a relief. “Thankfully thus far, with effective treatment and a few adaptations, my everyday life is mostly unaffected.”

Simon Moran, area fundraiser for the MS Society, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Phil and Team Social Hiking for taking on such a wonderful challenge.
