Vandals have damaged a number of gravestones in a Northampton cemetery in a seemingly random attack.

A ttoal of 15 headstones were pushed over at Dallington Cemetery in Harlestone Road, Northampton sometime between 10pm on Thursday, March 27 and 6am today.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “This type of vandalism is particularly upsetting for the relatives whose family gravestones have been damaged.

“Fortunately, none of the stones have been smashed, but they have all been pushed over and will now have to undergo a lot of work before they can be put back up.

“We would urge anyone who knows anything about these mindless attacks to contact us as soon as possible.”

It appears the graves were targeted by the vandals at random, with no pattern to the stones which were pushed over.

Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with any information about it, can call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
