GCSE results at Weston Favell Academy '˜highest in the school's history'

Indicative results show that the number of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at grade A* to C, including English and maths, has increased by more than a third since 2015 to 41 per cent.

In addition the results show that 47 per cent of pupils have secured a good pass (a grade A* to C) in English and mathematics which is 17 per cent increase on last year.

Vocational results have also improved with 77 per cent of pupils studying multi media and business studies and 67 per cent of pupils studying sports studies achieving a Level 2 Pass or above.

The results show that more than 90 per cent of pupils are leaving the academy with five GCSEs or equivalents.

Mason Fitzhugh is the academy’s top performing student achieving four A* grades, five A grades and one B grade. Mason has consistently been the top performing student in his year group since joining the academy. He is intending to continue his education at the academy studying maths, further maths, physics and biology.

Goda Aleksandraviciute is the academy’s top performing girl. She joined with English as her second language and has achieved six A grades, two B grades and a C grade. She will continue her education at the academy in maths, chemistry, ethics and biology.

Eleanor Morrison gained three A* grades, three A grades a B and two C grades. She will now leave the academy to join the Northampton School for Boys.

Sergui Badea, for whom English is not her first language, has made the most progress of any pupil since joining the academy in Key Stage 3 achieving on average a grade higher than expected across all his subjects.

David Cocarlea, Kieran Osbourne, Ciara Stott and Reece Jackman have also achieved impressive results.

Two students for whom English was not their first language and who only joined the academy at the start of Year 11; Laurent Mulamba, achieved four A grades and five B grades. Salumatu Bangura gained an A* grade, two A grades, five B grades and a C grade and will also continue his studies at the academy.

Keya Kadir and Brogan Loudan have both overcome significant personal health concerns whilst studying for their GCSEs. Keya has secured seven good passes and

Brogan six good passes.

Luke Fidler, who is a carer for his mother, has achieved nine A*-C passes.

They are a testament to the dedication and commitment of leaders, staff and students across theacademy and the belief that all our students can achieve well and often exceed expectations.

“There are some amazing individual student performances both in terms of attainment and progress. What is particularly pleasing is that many of these students will now continue their studies at WFA in the Sixth Form. I am immensely proud of all our students and wish them all well in the next stages of their education or careers.”

The Weston Favell Academy is one of the 30 Academies sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT).
