The funeral of a former Northampton Chronicle & Echo news editor and Northampton Saints reporter will take place next week, his family has confirmed.
Terry Morris, who worked at the Chron from 1974 to 2006, died on Wednesday after a short illness.
His son James said the funeral would be held at the Counties Crematorium in Milton Malsor on Thursday, November 12 at 2pm. It will be followed by an event at Northampton BBOB in St Andrew’s Road.
James Morris said everyone who knew his father is welcome to attend the funeral or the event afterwards.
The family have requested that, instead of flowers, donations be made to Cancer Research or Dementia UK. The donations should be sent to the funeral directors SE Wilkinson & Son, 30 Grove Road, Northampton NN1 3LQ.
Dozens of former colleagues of Mr Morris have paid tribute to him since the news was announced he had died.
Chronicle & Echo sports editor Jeremy Casey described Terry as “a real character and an excellent writer” who was admired and respected by his colleagues.
He said: “Terry was from the old school of journalism, he liked a pint and a smoke, and he was somebody I admired and respected greatly.
“When I started at the Chron in the early 1990s, I only knew Terry by reputation, that he didn’t suffer fools gladly and was no-nonsense. I was a bit wary of meeting him to be honest.
“What I had been told was true, but underneath the tough exterior, Terry was a big softie really with a big heart, and always good company.
“Players and coaches may not always have agreed with what Terry may have written about them at times, but they always respected him. And that is important.”
