Patient and visitors to Northampton General hospital will now be able to call taxis for free on one of a number of phones placed at major exits.
Northampton firm Amber Cars signed a deal with the hospital back in July to place free phones around the facility.
The devices have now been put in place in the main reception of the hospital, area K, the south entrance and the discharge lounge, adding to ones already installed in A&E.
Manager of Amber Cars David Sherwood said the deal with the hospital, part of a £100,000 in investment in the cab firm over recent months, will cut waiting times for those travelling to and from the hospital.
“The days of waiting 15 minutes for a taxi outside the hospital should be gone as a result of this,” he said.
“We now always have cars available at key points around the hospital.
“A lot of people may have rushed into to hospital and may not have their mobile phones with them, now they know there is somewhere they can make a call and get home quickly.
“We will know exactly which payphone you are calling from in the hospital and dispatch a car straight away.”
A free 0800 number can also be used to call Amber Cars from the reception points in the hospital.
In the past few months, the Kingswell Street-based firm has also launched an app allowing users to order cabs via card payments and track their taxi on a live map.
