Rob Crussell, Tom Clarke, Richard Carter and Liam Wilkinson, who all live in the south of the county, have been taking part in a series of sponsored events in aid of Action on Pre-eclampsia.

They took on the cause after Rob’s son, Theo, died aged less than two days old when his mum, Kate, had the high blood pressure condition late in her pregnancy.

As well as sponsored beard shaves and abseils, the friends recently completed the London Marathon together, pushing their fundraising total to £21,200 - more than double their target.

Rob said: “It still doesn’t feel real.

“Don’t let anyone or yourself tell you that you can’t do things because you can if you put your mind to it, and have amazing friends and family.

“We have raised well over £20,000 which is absolutely insane and is life changing for the charity.

“I always heard the crowd got you round, never believed it but they were amazing cheering us on and supplying food.

“I will never forget that experience.”
