Former Northampton Transport and First Northampton colleagues get together for second reunion

Following the success of the 2014 staff and friends reunion for Northampton Transport/First Northampton the decision was made to hold a second event this year.

After 110 years of history and service to the town the ‘red bus’ operation in later years owned by First Group closed its doors in September 2013.

Eevent organiser, Matt Cooper, said: “With all that history and nothing to mark the occasion I decided to hold the reunion event.

“This year the event was held at Monks Park Working Mens’ Club and attended by more than 130 people. Many eras of service and job grades attended, the longest serving being from the 1960s right up to those there at the end. I

worked as a driver for the operation between 1999 and 2004 and met a lot of characters, made a lot of friends many of whom have added their positive influence on me.

“I was the only ‘student bus driver’ for three of those years, at the time studying at Park Campus for a business and HR degree whilst driving on my days off.

“All proceeds from the event were donated to Cynthia Spencer hospice and I intend to hold another event at the same venue in January 2016.”
