A footballer suffered a broken jaw after an incident following a match at the home ground of Northampton Sileby Rangers in Moulton Park.

Kettering Town player Jake Newman, who is on loan at the Northampton club, played in a UCL Premier Division match against Long Buckby at the Fernie Fields Sportsground on Saturday.

After the match Mr Newman suffered a broken jaw in two places and has subsequently had an operation to correct the damage.

The circumstances involving the incident are being investigated by Northamptonshire Police.

A statement released by Kettering Town said: “Jake’s loan was due to expire this coming weekend - but his season is now over due to the injury.

“The circumstances relating to this injury are being investigated- and it would be inappropriate for Kettering Town FC to make any further comment currently.

“Everyone at the Club wishes Jake a full and speedy recovery.”
