A football supporter who threw a smoke flare onto the pitch at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Mansfield Town fan James Sansom, aged 31, was arrested on August 9 after he was involved in an incident during the League Two match against Northampton Town.
Sansom was charged with possessing a flare and throwing it onto the football pitch.
At Northampton Magistrates’ Court Sansom pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to four weeks in jail, suspended for a year.
He was also given a three-year football banning order, which prevents him from attending any Mansfield Town or England home or away games until 2018.
Sansom, of, Oakham, Rutland, was also fined £300, must pay a victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £85.
The flare incident happened in the first game of the season in which Northampton Town defeated Mansfield Town 1-0.
