Indica Automotive has taken up a vacant industrial unit in Weddell Way, Brackmills Industrial Estate and has already invested £150,000 in the move.

The company launched in Rugby in 2014 as a joint venture between Indica Industries and The Autins Group, fabricating foam products for various markets, but aiming to concentrate on the automotive trade.

Last year Indica won contracts to supply to Jaguar Land Rover and Bentley with their partner Autins, which required a significant increase in capacity, so looked to Northampton for a new base.

Sukrit Sharma, of Indica, said: “We chose Northampton because if offers great connectivity, with direct access to the M1 meaning there are great links to both the north and south.

“The town also has more attractive rents than other places in the area, including Rugby.”

The company’s main product is acoustic foam which helps insulate cars, keeping sounds out while helping maintain internal temperatures.

Alongside the Jaguar Land Rover contract, Indica has started to pick up smaller commissions, and these combined have seen turnover increase from £1.1 million in 2015 to £1.8 million this year.

Northampton Borough Council awarded the company a £10,000 industrial zone vacant unit grant to help its move to the town.

The move has also created four jobs so far.

This supplemented the £150,000 investment by Indica, creating four extra jobs so far.

Councillor Tim Hadland, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Ambitious companies are always welcome to take advantage of the benefits Northampton offers, including a fantastic location, competitive costs, and an able and willing workforce.”
