London’s Parliament Square will be flying a flag designed by Northampton schooldchildren from today, after they won a national competition.

The Year 6 pupils from Abington Vale Primary School came up with the winning design after being invited by Parliament to take part in its 2015 Flag Project, commemorating the 1265 Montfort Parliament.

All pupils in the year were divided into groups and asked to create a flag to represent Northamptonshire. Teachers then picked the best group’s design to enter into the competition.

The flag, which features a picture of a shoe, representing the town’s historical footwear industry, against stripes in the Northampton Saints colours, will be flown in Parliament Square from today (Saturday) until May 22 (Friday).

The pupils in the winning group include: Nicole Gill, Annie Valentine, Remi Welford, Sadyiah Mukit, Josh Whaler, Fin Paterson, Ali Shurab and Benjamin

Hasting-Stroud.
