Five Northampton men appear in court on burglary and robbery charges

Officers from the town’s North East sector have been cracking down on burglary, vehicle crime and similar, targeting criminals known to be involved in those types of offences.

During the past few weeks, officers have been carrying out targeted patrols, disruption visits and curfew checks on known offenders, as well executing search and drugs warrants.

A number of people have been arrested and charged as a result of the targeted activity.

Tony Ash, aged 43, from Booth Meadow Court, Thorplands, Northampton has been charged with burglary. He appeared before magistrates on 25 February and was sentenced to nine months in prison.

Liam Ferguson, aged 35, formally of South Holme Court, Thorplands, Northampton, has been charged with burglary. He appeared before magistrates on 5 March and was given a three week custodial sentence.

Adam Tiwary, aged 34, formally of Stanhope Road, Kingsley, Northampton, has been charged with burglary. He appeared before magistrates on 4 March and was given a seven week custodial sentence.

Kieron Long, aged 30, from London Road, Far Cotton, Northampton, has been charged with handling stolen goods. He appeared before magistrates on 9 March and has been remanded in custody to appear at Northampton Crown Court on 17 March.

Aaron Saville, aged 41, from Alexander Court, Lumbertubs, Northampton, has been charged with four counts of robbery. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Northampton Crown Court on March 29.

Inspector Ian Caffel said the proactive work carried out by local officers had helped achieve a fall in burglary and vehicle crime across the North East sector and that support from the local community had been very positive.

He said; “Our targeted enforcement activity over the past few weeks has helped disrupt criminals in the area and we have made a number of arrests, resulting in an encouraging fall in the number of burglary and vehicle crime offences.

“The operation has involved all of our team, including PCSOs, specials and police staff volunteers. We have had really good support from the local community too and have been engaging with residents to share crime prevention advice and talk to them about any particular concerns they have.”

Insp Caffel said Boughton Green and St David’s are a particular priority for the crackdown.

He said “This will continue over the coming weeks and, with the continued help and support from local people, we aim to further disrupt the activities of offenders, achieving more good results and helping to make our communities safer and better places to live and work.”
