A 37-year-old man is facing jail after he admitted violent sexual assaults against two girls.

Thomas Sean McCarthy was arrested hours after he sexually assaulted his two victims on April 1 this year at a village in the Wellingborough area.

Northampton Crown Court heard McCarthy, from Finedon, had assaulted them in their beds.

McCarthy will be sentenced on July 13.

DC Cathy O’Connor, from the child protection team at Northamptonshire Police, said: “This was a violent, opportunist sexual assault carried out on two girls in their beds.

“The girls were incredibly brave throughout the investigation and are continuing to receive support.”

Following the court case, a spokesman for the NSPCC said: “McCarthy should have been looking after his two young victims.

“Instead he betrayed the trust placed in him and subjected both to horrific sexual abuse.

“Their bravery has helped to bring this offender to justice and it’s important they continue to receive all appropriate support.

“Child protection is everyone’s responsibility.

“We must all be alert to signs of a child’s distress and responsible enough to act on our concerns without hesitation.

“Anyone concerned about a child can call the NSPCC’s helpline on 0808 800 5000.

“Children can call Childline for help on 0800 1111.”
